Five Berkshire bakeries up for National Bakery Awards

The award organisers recently released a list of all the bakeries nominated for the awards from each county.

Among more than 200 bakeries, the list showcases five from Berkshire.

First up is Bakedd, an artisan bakery based in Maidenhead that makes all of its goods fresh and “handcrafted” every day on-site.

Founded by trio Emre, Gul, and Serdar, the bakery promises on its website that here will be: “No shortcuts. No compromise. Just honest ingredients, time-honoured traditions with an innovative twist, and whole lot of passion.”

Next is Fego, who – inspired by a South African upbringing – have been serving delicious food and drinks to customers in their cafes across several counties for an impressive 22 years.

Following through on a longstanding ambition, the Fego team opened a special artisan bakery in Ascot last summer (and also have a cafe in Sunningdale).

Honesty are also on the list of Berkshire nominees.

Founded in 2014, they run a number of cafes across Berkshire from Wokingham to Newbury with a focus on making food “with care, not chemicals”.

Next up is Rex Artisan Bakery, who have a bakery-cafe in Windsor and the ‘Rex Bakehouse’ in Ascot.

The bakery are “Sourdough Specialists”, relying on the “original ways of bread-making” and using just four ingredients.

Warings Bakery, which has a claim to fame as Reading’s oldest bakery, is also a nominee.

Warings has several shops in and around Reading and a main baking hub in Spencer’s Wood where all its breads and pastries are made by hand.
